Be sure to stop by the Gilt City Pop Up Shop at La Zona Rosa on 4th and Rio Grande, presented as part of Austin Fashion Week. From home goods, to men’s shoes and women’s accessories, the small shop has a surprisingly diverse offering of merchandise. I picked up a fab jacket, a pair of earrings, a professional teeth whitening system and a pair of Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo pants, all for under $200. The shop will be open Friday, May 10th from 10am-5pm.

Dear Fashionistas,

This just came across my desk.  During Austin Fashion Week, there will be a chance to partake in the shopping experience that is Gilt City, brought to you by Gilt:

 Prior to the AFW Runways & Marketplace on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10, the public will be able to shop the Gilt City Pop Up Sale, a sample sale featuring discounted designer goods, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM in the La Zona Rosa courtyard.

This signature Gilt City event will bring what Vogue has called the “online shopping phenomenon” to Austin Fashion Week.

Shoppers will find racks stocked with fashionable pieces of all kinds, including the newest shoe styles, jewelry, suits, jackets, denim, tops and outerwear for men, women and children. For the home, expect bedding, kitchen and bath accessories, decorative pieces and much more.

While we can’t tell you exactly which designers you’ll encounter, you can expect the best of the best. Check out some examples of items you might score!

Worthy Cause: Kendra Scott + Community Yoga Austin

Dear Fashionistas,

This past Thursday I attended the “Kendra Scott Gives Back Party with Community Yoga Austin.”  The brand is known for its colorful, over-the-top pieces, worn by celebrities, the girl-next-door and brides-to-be.  Founded on the principles of family, fashion and philanthropy, leave it to Kendra Scott to throw a fun party complete with cupcakes and yoga, a combo as unique and joyful as her jewelry creations.

I was really impressed by this new fall collection, which can be summed up as “go big, or go bigger,” and you know I love an unapologetically grand statement piece.  Besides, it’s not too early to start shopping for the perfect holiday party accessories.

Thread Thursday: Je T’Aime Le Garage!

Dear Fashionistas,

Reminiscent of the unbelievable sales of the Fashion Industry Gallery (FIG) in Dallas, Le Garage is Austin’s very own treasure trove of incredible clothing, jewelry and furniture, all at jaw-dropping prices!  Just what is Le Garage exactly?  As explained on the official website:

“Le Garage Boutique Sale is a two day shopping event that brings together your city’s coolest independent boutiques all under one roof and all at clearance sale prices! You will find unbelievable markdowns at many of your favorite stores…”

Some of my favorite boutiques were present, including By George, Maya Star, Kendra Scott and Langford Market.  I discovered another boutique called Peacock Plume- they sell the gorgeous white necklace in the photo above.  Also, some of Kendra’s amazing pieces were only $15!  I found a very cute graphic asymmetrical shirt from Langford Market as well.  So I definitely agree with the Le Garage website: “Now you can feel good about supporting your local businesses and saving money!”

This year’s event was held at the Palmer Events Center near 1st Street and Barton Springs.  The next sale will be held around the end of January 2013 so mark your calendars.  To sign up for Le Garage’s email list, please click here!

Thread Thursday: Dallas’ Vintage Clothing & Jewelry Show and Austin’s City-Wide Garage Sale

Hi Fashionistas,

I’m still in the middle of surviving SXSW and setting up an online vintage store with my friend (yay! super excited about this project), but wanted to share a few things that came across my desk recently.

1.  The Dallas Vintage Clothing & Jewelry Show

March 16-17 in Grapevine Convention Center, 1209 South Main Street, Grapevine TX

Friday 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

(advance tickets $20, $8 at the door)

I missed the Austin Vintage Glamporium back in October and I’m thrilled to see that another vintage event is happening in Grapevine.  I believe Vintage Martini will be one of the many fab vendors, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about them.

2. City-Wide Garage Sale

Mar 17-18 – Austin – Palmer Events Center

Austin Show Hours — Saturday 10a – 5p Sunday 11a – 5p Early Shopper Hours — Saturday 8:30a-10a Early Shopper Fee-$10

I’ve gotten mixed reviews about the City-Wide Garage Sale- sometimes there are great finds and sometimes there doesn’t seem to be much variety. But all in all, I think it’s worth the $5 bucks to go inside and see if you can find that special piece. I found an incredible gold and coral brooch the last time I went and got a great bargain on it!
