Dior Diva Auction and Other News

Dearest Fashionistas,

A few things have come across my desk that I wish to share with you: the Dior Diva Auction, Cimber Designs 50% Off Sale and my beloved byrd & bleecker’s new location.

The Dior Diva Auction gives you the chance to give back to women affected by cancer.  Starting today, you can bid on extraordinary experiences such as the “Fashionista Diva” in which you would win a shopping tour with Harper’s Bazaar Editor Avril Graham, or “Escape Diva”- the prize is a spa trip to St. Maarten to visit the Dior Institute or “Teen Vogue Diva” where you could spend the day at Teen Vogue!

This extravagent auction is exclusively for Dior Divas, but fret not.  When you register for the Auction, you will be automatically enrolled in the Dior Diva program which gives you access to special offers and rewards from Dior.  To register for the Auction, simply click here

100% of the proceeds go to benefit Look Good…Feel Better, ”a non-medical, brand-neutral public service program that teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.”  This is a wonderful cause that has helped thousands of women, so spread the word!  Some bids are as low as $250 right now! (Ahem, “Networking Diva!”)

Cimber Designs is currently nearing the end of its Black Week Sale- only 2 days remaining for you to receive 50% off your entire purchase!

And finally….

byrd & bleecker has relocated from Park Hill to Camp Bowie!

So be sure to visit them in the new location; they have all kinds of new goodies in stock too!

Thread Thursday: Two La La Women’s Boutique

North Richland Hills, TX.  Big surprises come in small packages.  Tucked away in a unassuming shopping center off Boulevard 26 is a true gem of a women’s resale boutique.  Two La La is cute and quaint, and what it lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for in its carefully curated selection of designer clothes.

Two La La’s philosophy is actually “buy sale trade,” not to be confused with consignment.  Here’s the difference in a nutshell: consigning can be  fussy, inconvenient and time-consuming, none of which appeal to any true fashionista on the go.  Sales of the consignor’s clothes must be constantly tracked, and weeks or more can roll by without a sale, or payout, for the consignor.  The “buy sell trade” model offers hassle-free instant gratification.  You drop off your fashionable clothes at Two La La, the clerk selects desirable items and within 24 hours, contacts you with an offer of cash or store credit.  That’s it.

Actually, there’s more.  Let’s talk prices.  Nothing, I mean nothing, is over $20.  Smitten with that Christian Dior pant suit?  $20.  Oh, and that genuine fur coat?  $20.  Don’t want to spend $20?  No problem.  Two La La’s pricing structure is simple: $5-$10-$15-$20!

Who do we have to thank for this miracle?  DFW, meet owners Amy Dunker and Mikell Sullivan Rowley, the masterminds behind this bargain boutique.  Friends and colleagues for over 16 years, these two left corporate America, started Two La La this summer and have never looked back (or looked better might I add!).

And while the ladies are big on style, they’re also big on giving back.  Two La La is a proud supporter of SafeHaven of Tarrant County.  SafeHaven’s mission is to “end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change.”  Right now, Two La La is selling HeartCardsfor just $55, all proceeds go to SafeHaven, and you get 20% off purchases at participating retailers from Oct. 29- Nov. 7!  Once again, another way to look good and give back!

Why are you still sitting there?!  Get over to North Richland Hills right now!

Two La La: your new favorite destination for designer deals.

Upcoming Events: The Family Place Partners Card and NOVA

Hello All:

Please see below for more about The Family Place and The Northern Virginia Fashion Show.

Partners Card

The Family Place is Dallas’ largest family violence service provider and has been assisting victims of family violence for 32 years.  You can help The Family Place continue its mission by donating directly or by purchasing a Partners Card, which will give you 20% off your purchases at over 750 retailers and restaurants from Oct. 29th to Nov. 7th.  A friend of mine used her Partners Card to get 20% off a fabulous Gucci purse!  (And you know every little bit helps!)  Help the Family Place- then help yourself to some Gucci.

Nova Fashion Week

Nova Fashion Week

The Northern Virginia (NOVA) Fashion Week will be held Oct. 21-24, 2010 at Waterfront Park.  I know I usually blog about Dallas/Fort Worth, but let’s not pretend like Texans don’t travel!  As fellow fashion blogger the Clueless Fashionista pointed out during our chat last week, everyone can’t make it to New York, Paris and Milan, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t enough catwalks to go around!

I, in fact, thought Northpark’s Fashion at the Park in Dallas two years ago was quite lovely and I felt fortunate to attend the Valentino show and afterparty.  Plus, it gave me an excuse to swing by Tiffanys and pick up something for myself!

Restaurant Week 2010 (Aug. 16-22)

What?  Food on a  fashion blog?  It’s not unheard of.  Many a fashionista moonlights as a foodie.  Just look at Atlantis Home’s fabulous author Judy Aldridge.  Not only are the rare furnishings of her home decadent yet inviting, but she also manages to capture the same mood with the recipes she posts.  You can find recipes for dishes that are healthy and hearty, like zucchini fritters or red bean chili, to those that satisfy the sweet tooth (mixed berry pie and orange chocolate chippers, anyone?)

In the spirit of food and fashion, I am excited that KRLD Restaurant Week is upon us again.  Presented by Central Market, guests can order gourmet, 3-course prix-fixe dinners for only $35 at participating restaurants in Dallas/Fort Worth (tax, tips and drinks not included).  Proceeds go to benefit North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home.

In Fort Worth, I personally enjoy Cast Iron at the Omni hotel and Ferre Ristorante e Bar but I’d also like to try out Top Chef Casey Thompson’s Brownstone, located in Fort Worth’s quaint but posh West 7th development.  In Dallas, you can’t go wrong with Dakota’s Restaurant, Samar by Stephan Pyles(get the black rice with fried squid or the potatoes and chorizo!) and Nobu.

So once again, here’s an opportunity to look good, eat good and do good for others.  Bon appetit!

For reservations, call the restaurant directly or book online through Open Table.

Nik

Shopping at GW Boutique

Note: Check out my latest post about GW Boutique, published on Mar. 27, 2011.

GW Boutique; 750 S. Main Street, Suite 125, Keller, Texas 76248

Mon.-Sat. 9am-6pm; Sun. 12pm-5pm

Hello!

So I wanted to report back what I found at the GW Boutique in Keller, TX.

On Saturday, March 20th, at 9:50am SHARP, yours truly and a friend arrived at the GW Boutique. We were going to stay in the car until the doors officially opened at 10am, as an ungodly cold front had descended upon north Texas, but one by one, women, no, our Sisters in Shopping, began to congregate in front of the store. Not wanting to miss out on the camaraderie (or be the last in line), we left the warmth and ventured out into the chilly morning.

And We're Waiting...

Still Waiting...

In her excitement, one woman peered through the glass and several women at one time or another knocked on glass…do y’all remember that old Mervyn’s commercial where the shoppers are outside the store chanting “Open open open”? Yeah, women did that here too.

Open! Let the Games Begin!

Finally, a store clerk opened the door and according to plan, I zigged left while my friend zagged right. I found some great winter pieces and she lucked up on some lovely summer dresses.

Michael Kors jeans- for cheap!

I apologize that I only have a few pictures of the madness going on inside the store, but I couldn’t shop, hold my purse, balance a mountain of clothes on my arm AND take pictures! So I took a few pics while I was in line to check out.

Check-out Line

Speaking of the check out line, it literally snaked through the racks and all the way to the wall- I highly recommend visiting on a week day, when there’s likely to be less traffic. It is, after all, a boutique and drastically smaller than the regular Good Will Stores.

So here’s what I came home with: 3 Banana Republic Sweaters and a dreamy cream coat.

Banana Republic in the House!

Banana Republic Bell-Sleeved Sweater

Banana Republic Striped Knit Shirt

Banana Republic Sweater

Piece de Resistance!

Sleeve Button Detail

Back of Coat

So here are the Tips for this Trip:
1. Don’t go on the weekend. If you do, go EARLY to avoid a crowded store. Within 30 minutes of our arrival the store was pretty full. I think there’ll be more breathing room during the week.

2. There’s only ONE fitting room. Therefore, shoppers resorted to changing in the restrooms as a fitting room alternative to speed things along. The line to get a dressing room was still long however.

3. The Boutique is small, so there aren’t any shopping carts.

4. No shopping carts means you’ll end up piling clothes up on your arm, so if you’re looking for a particular brand, I suggest knowing how their sizes fit on you and skipping the dressing room (some brands run smaller or larger than others).

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want these tips to suggest that the shopping experience wasn’t good. On the contrary- we had a great time! The entire Boutique was pristine, the staff was efficient and courteous and the clothing quality and prices were fabulous! (Coach bag for $30, anyone?) I just wanted to give you all a heads up on a few things so you can plan accordingly.

Oh, and I do plan to go back- again and again.

If you have any questions about my shopping experience, or would like to share your shopping experience from March 20th, please feel free to do so. Please also remember that by shopping at the GW Boutique, you are going green, giving back to the community and looking good while doing it!

Fashionably Yours,
Nik
