My friend, artist Rosie Lee (né Marcello Pope), is raising funds for the 3 week Creative Currents Summer Residency in Portobelo, Panama, taking place at the end of June. Lee’s Indiegogo Campaign closes June 10th. In the artist’s own words:
” My art work from an artistic and scholarly practice is based on African, Latin and Asian cultures, the history of textiles and the role fashion plays from a contemporary aspect in reference to image and identity…[t]his project is a collaborative initiative for children and adults to reflect on their own personal stories of Portobelo, Panama through art and fashion…What sets these fashionable creations apart is that the clothing serves as a canvas and art medium to both be worn and framed in a traditional gallery setting. The goal of the “Walking Art” exhibition is to install the fashionable canvases in a pop-up gallery to illustrate the multiple function of textile, fashion and cultural art.”
