I was greeted with a strong whiff of leather and cedar when I walked into the Austin Music Hall for the Austin Fashion Week Men’s Event. This was definitely the best kind of different I could imagine. Men sat in leather chairs receiving straight razor shaves from Madeline Wells while sipping whiskey from Johnny Walker.
Not only was there some exciting men’s fashion at this event, but there were a few other creative booths that I look forward to sharing with you:
Bryan Ashley Clothiers: This company has the most hilariously straight-forward creation story that I have ever heard. The founder told his friend, “I think we should start making socks.” The next day, they did. This Austin-based company makes great accessories from neckties and handkerchiefs, to, you guessed it…socks!
Dandy’s: A husband and wife owned store in downtown Austin that “creates stylish, custom made/bespoke, turn of the century inspired gentlemen’s garb.” Their Clothes are brilliantly made. You can get some amazing custom suits, bow ties and even shoes for a great price. Don’t forget to check out their candles and shaving accessories!
Dr. Squatch: This booth caught my eye for a few reasons: a.) they were giving out free samples, b.) it smelled amazing, c.) their logo was fantastic. Dr. Squatch is a soap company that wants to make natural soaps that smell masculine. My favorite scents were “Gold Moss Scrub,” “Cedar Citrus,” “Pine Tar,” and “Bay Rum.” They also have a cologne coming out with notes of Sandalwood, Oakmoss, Coriander, and Basil. I will definitely be buying a bottle!
Betty Loo Project: Bethany Loewen is an awesomely talented designer and leather worker. She makes everything from leather bags and belts, to cuffs and mustache keychains. She recently got funded through a Kickstarter campaign to take her design and business to the next level.
