One of the many benefits of owning a blog is you can write about whatever you want. Today, I want to share one of my favorite non-fashion blogs, The Art of Non-Conformity, written by Chris Guillebeau. Insightful, inspiring and thoughtful, this blog always puts a smile on my face, and more importantly, helps me realize that there are still good people in the world, doing good things for others.
Chris was recently in Austin for SXSW, which seemed to inspire an article on AONC focused on helping others, and we know giving back is always a fashionable thing to do. It challenged people to give something away for free, without any strings attached, or expectation of a return favor. The response has been overwhelming, from people giving away free products such as make up samples, art and books to services like consultations for law school applicants, and PC repairs.
These are incredible acts of kindness, by strangers, for strangers, no strings attached. So I’ll pose the same questions as Chris:
“Figure out something you’d like to give away for free. Do you have a skill you’d like to offer—something you can help someone with?
Is there something of value that you no longer want, but someone else could put it to good use?”
You can share your offer by:
a) Writing a blog post that links to this one. The trackbacks on this page will link to your blog post.
b) Posting a comment that explains what you are offering for free. It can be anything you’d like that’s legal, and if there’s a website related to your free offer, include the URL as well.
In a couple of weeks I’ll post a list of the offers and links.
