In honor of the Martin Luther King holiday, Dress for Success Austin hosted a service project at their facility in East Austin today. The charity’s stated mission is to “promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” I’ve been a long-time admirer of Dress for Success and its focus on helping women succeed.
Judy Chambers, DFS Austin Executive Director, paired volunteers to help sort, organize, hang and shelve clothing and supplies. I worked with a group of women attorneys putting together packets with health tips, including recipes and preventative care, and then we stocked shelves with shampoo, conditioner and other necessities. It was great to spend time not only giving back to others, but also getting to know new people in Austin dedicated to community service.
While MLK is the perfect day to do community service, it doesn’t have to be the only day! For more information about how to donate to, or volunteer for Dress for Success, please visit their Support Page.
