The most stylish combo is fashion and philanthropy, hands down. If you love fashion, and giving back to the community, then this Saturday is an opportunity to do what you love!
Toombas Jeans and Denim Wear will host Fashion Fusion: The Color of Life, an annual celebration of style and music on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at The Marchesa Hall & Theatre in Austin. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen Austin for the third consecutive year. Singer and reality television personality Trina Braxton of WE TV’s hit series The Braxtonswill also perform her new single, “Party or Go Home” at the event.
I asked Haja Scott, fashionista and co-founder of Toombas Jeans, a few questions about her growing business and fashion in general.
1. ‘Toombas’ celebrates beautiful curves, what does the word mean/stand for?
Your Tumba (actual word spelling) is your BUTT in the West African language, Krio. My family is from West Africa so we decided to use this word as inspiration for our curvy line.
2. What makes denim a universal fashion statement?
Denim was originally used as a working fabric but as time progressed, we began to see more manipulated denim – stretch denim, selvage denim, soft denim, bull denim, destruction and faded washed denim, colored denim, denim shorts, skirts, dresses, jackets, and NOW even cocktail denim! There’s no way a person couldn’t find their OWN style in denim and that’s why we love it!
3. What’s your favorite piece from your collection?
From our new Denim Cocktail collection, I LOVE our Color Blocked Pencil Skirt! We use stretch denim (of course!) and various solid and/or colorful fabrics to create one-of-a-kind color blocking. It’s awesomely unique and can be mixed & matched with so many pieces in a typical wardrobe!
4. Complete this statement: “The perfect casual style is jeans and…”:
White Tank/stretch Tee & earrings that make a statement (simple & stylish).
I couldn’t agree more and I love a good fashion history lesson! Don’t forget, you can purchase tickets at www.toombas.net.
