I used to loathe reality tv and now it seems that’s all I watch- or perhaps that’s all that is on tv now? Any hoo, one of my faves is the “Real” Housewives franchise on Bravo TV, aka, the House That Andy Built, and I’ve started to think back over the past seasons about the best- and worst- fashions the cast has dared to wear. It seems to me that one style in particular has shown up in every episode- the Housewives Shirt, for lack of a better phrase. This usually bedazzled, often tragic, sometimes ruffled or one-shouldered frock has been worn by every “housewife” in some variation during her narration scenes in an attempt to look “lady-like.” But alas, this prominent style to me is symbolic of a line from The Curse of the Golden Flower, something to the effect that while everything seems beautiful on the outside, things are falling apart on the inside. I don’t think I’ll ever look at a bejeweled top the same way again. Or chandelier earrings for that matter.
As you probably know, the Atlanta Housewives finale was last night and Beverly Hills will have the second half of their reunion this Thursday. All this in preparation for the premier of the New York Housewives on Feb. 15th- whew, that Andy Cohen sure knows how to crank them out. Ladies and Gents, which cast, of any city, do you think is most fashionable overall? Vote now in my Real Housewives fashion poll!
